Injured Chris Gayle ruled out of IPL 07

West Indian batsman Chris Gayle, who has been struggling with his fitness throughout this Indian Premier League, will miss the remainder of the season after injuring his shoulder.

The big-hitting Jamaican, who has had problems with his back and hamstring, suffered the latest injury during the match against Rajasthan Royals at the Chinnaswamy stadium on Sunday, 11th May 2014.

Gayle dived at backward point to stop a shot from Ajinkya Rahane from going to the boundary in the 4th over of Rajasthan’s innings. While he did manage to stop the ball, he injured himself during the process and had to leave the field. News later emerged that he was taken to the hospital to get an X-Ray.

Gayle, who missed the first four games of the UAE leg due to a sore back, has not been at his best in this edition, with scores of 20, 27, 38, 4 and 19 in the five matches he played for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Gayle’s injury comes as a big blow to RCB, who have been struggling this season and are amongst the bottom placed teams with just three wins from nine games. They have five more games to play with

Gayle is the second player from Bangalore to be ruled out of the ongoing IPL. New South Wales batsman Nic Maddinson was out of the tournament after injuring his finger and the IPL Event Technical Committee approved South African batsman Rilee Russow as his replacement.

Bangalore now have the option of bringing in a replacement for Gayle. They can do so by getting one from the list of players who registered for the 2014 IPL auction but went unsold.
