Mega event starts with a bang as Opening ceremoney held in NZ & Australia

Children mingled with cricketing greats in backyard matches and Maori warriors shared the stage with morris dancers as the Cricket World Cup opened with a amazing ceremony in Christchurch.

Thousands of fans crammed Hagley Park to see the launch of the 1st World Cup in New Zealand and Australia in 23 years.

The World Cup is the largest event Christchurch has hosted since an earthquake in Feb 2011 devastated the city’s centre – only a few hundred yards from where Thursday’s festivities took place, claiming the lives of  almost 185 people.

A giant and luminous cricket player is operated by numerous performers on stage in Melbourne. The giant puppet batsman lifts his bat to salute the crowd at the Melbourne.

The ceremony in New Zealand was started with a solitary bagpipe player and ended with a firework display.

Here is a video of cricket player robot, entertaining the crowd at Melbourne. It is probably the best part of opening ceremony. Watch the video and share it with your friends.
