Video: 5-year-old boy playing T20 match goes Viral on social media
The Coaches say, “Catch them young”. And why not; after all, Tendulkar was just 15 when he played his maiden first-class match and in doing so, captured the attention of an entire country in the process.
With cricket ranking high among kids in the country, young boys gearing up with the massive cricket kit across a cricket-field is not totally an uncommon sight. But not many pick up the competitive game at 5 years of age. Unless your name is Rudra Pratap.
Social media was abuzz today with video of Rudra Pratap playing an U-14 T20 match surfaced. The boy is just 5 years old!
The match actually took place in 2014 and shows the 5-year-old boy batting in full cricketing apparel. Draped in batting gear from head to toe, young Rudra Pratap takes guard with 3 overs to spare in the U-14 T20 match.
Hardly taller than the stumps, he played and missed quite balls but when the contact was made, the talent was visible. He cuts, drives, flicks and then leaves some balls just like a seasoned cricketer.
The bowlers visibly ease up a bit. The fielders were seen sporting a smile and in between overs, the umpire had a brief word with the young boy as well.
The commentators enjoying the moment, laud the coaches for handing the boy a game in a big televised match.
